Lisa Ronis is a
New York City matchmaker who specializes in
introducing upscale singles. Lisa has managed to
incorporate her matchmaking business into her
charity work by organizing fundraising events for
singles. She reaches out to the single community
over the UJC website by giving dating advice through
“Ask The Matchmaker” and holds workshops for singles
at The Learning Annex.
Ronis received a
B.A. in Fine arts from Hunter College, with
additional courses from Parsons School of design and
Fashion Institute of Technology. She then entered
the fashion industry where she held many executive
positions, her last being Vice President of Design
for Fashion Accessories at Liz Claiborne. Focusing
on what she does best, meeting and matching the
right people, she left the fashion industry and
founded Lisa Ronis Personal Matchmaking.
She attends
charity events, museum parties, intimate
get-togethers and meets people through word of
mouth.
Marketdata
interviewed Ms. Ronis. She works out of her house
and has several assistants. She could not estimate
how many matchmakers there are in the country, but
does feel that most are doing well right now, based
on her own practice and others she has spoken to.
She feels that many matchmakers today do have
websites, but not all have a good business
background. Lisa does not do any paid advertising
but has received some very good press from New York
newspapers such as the NY Times, NY Post, Daily
News, and she has been on Dateline and other TV
shows.
Ms. Ronis claims
that her clientele is split roughly 50/50 male vs.
female clients, and that clients pay the same fees
regardless of their sex, if they retain her to work
for them. However, she did say that women may get
into her database or “pool” free of charge. (Due to
the typical professions of her clients, listed
below, it is Marketdata’s opinion that males are
likely to comprise more than 50% of her clients, as
is true of most other matchmakers.)
Her Services
The process begins
with an initial consultation. During the
confidential interview the potential client
discusses their interests, lifestyle and the kind of
partner they are looking for. They are also given a
questionnaire to fill out. Ronis then takes the
information and searches through her database
consisting of thousands of eligibles. During the
second meeting she presents a list of potential
matches. A client signs on for one year of
matchmaking, image consulting and coaching in dating
when necessary. After the dates, Ronis gets feedback
from both parties and passes on any information that
might be helpful. She also organizes charity
fundraisers, intimate dinner parties and provides
invitations to events.
Lisa Ronis
Personal Matchmaking works with Bankers, Lawyers,
Doctors, Real Estate Developers, Entrepreneurs,
Business Owners, Magazine and Fashion Executives and
Models.
