Many dieters today
are too busy to visit a weight loss
center several times or even once a
week. And, some people don't live close
to a diet center if they live in rural
areas. For them, a new diet plan is
emerging--diet food delivered right
to your door, every day!
These services
offer the convenience of prepared
healthy diets and all the planning is
done for you. This is an attractive
weight loss plan for many time-pressed
consumers. But, it does come at a price.
These plans usually cost between $10 and
$40 per day when shipping is added.
Obviously, these
weight loss programs appeal to the more
affluent dieter.
How
Diet Food Home Delivery Works
Basically, diet
food home delivery services prepare gourmet or diet food delivered
to your doorstep every day.
With some companies (like Atkins At Home,
NutriSystem), you also get a "personal coach" or counselor, who may
be supervised by a dietitian or physician and who advises you in
your weight loss program.
Many services want you to sign long-term
contracts up front. But, there is room for negotiating (several
days of free food, a sampler pack, etc.).
Most of the services serve local areas but some
are planning to expand nationwide. Food is delivered in handy cooler
bags that arrive at your door by 6 a.m. daily. At the end of the
day, you leave the cooler outside your door.
The Major Companies Offering The Service
Currently, there
are only a handful of companies (maybe 10) offering this service.
Some will ship the food nationwide while others focus on specific
metro areas. Much of the local delivery activity seems to be taking
place in the New York metro area and Los Angeles at this time, but
the local delivery phenomenon is expanding into other areas.
Meanwhile the national delivery phenomenon is proving profitable to
those few companies that have been able find a strong marketing
niche.
How Much Does
Diet Food Home
Delivery Cost?
Hold onto your wallet. Home delivery
of gourmet, healthy diet food does
not come cheap. Costs range from
$10-40 per DAY, or $70-280 per week,
or $300-1,200 per month. Some deals
can be had by signing up for longer
periods, or negotiating. It's
largely the convenience you're
paying for.
If you ARE going to spend this large
amount of money on a weight loss program, you should probably see if
you can get some counseling thrown in which makes it a better value.
Some companies want you to pay up front for
diet food delivery, some
week by the week.

your health insurance (with the possible exception being NutriSystem
and Jenny Craig, since their main activity is a weight loss program,
with counseling.
