Company Summary
Good
Measure Meals was started in 2003 by restauranteur Tom Murphy, who owns
Murphy's Restaurant in Virginia Highlands.
In 2005 Good Measure
Meals was purchased by the Atlanta non-profit Open Hand. The purchase by
OpenHand is part of a growing trend in the non-profit world called social
entrepreneurship. While Good measure Meals is a separate business unit, all
net proceeds generated by the business unit go to support the mission of
Open Hand - "To help people with chronic disease or disability overcome
barriers to improved health by offering home-delivered meals and prevention
based nutrition programs.
Open Hand invested
over $100,000 in the development of a new menu that would be compliant with
the healthy eating guidelines established by The American Heart association,
The American Diabetic Association, and The American Cancer Society.
Good Measure services only the Metro Atlanta, Georgia
area, with convenient pick up locations, or they deliver meals to your home
or office.
How the Plan Works
Four nutritionally balanced, calorie controlled meal
plans are available. The
company also offers the Good Measure Meals "Dinner Plan" for individuals who
just need a healthy option for dinner.
Starting at
$18.99 a day, Good Measure Meals delivers three meals a day, five or seven
days a week.
The meals are
always fresh, never frozen. They are simply heated in a microwave or oven.
The
"Dinner Plan" provides 5 nutritious dinners each week at just $8.99 per day.
Good Measure Meals offers four calorie levels to choose
from. Snacks are included:
-
1200 calories/day - $18.99/day
-
1400 calories/day - $19.99/day
-
1700 calories/day - $20.99/day
-
2100 calories/day - $22.99/day
The basic delivery charge is $25 per week. That charge
covers 2 deliveries per week. Fresh, ready to eat meals are delivered to
your home or office or pick up location on Monday and Thursday of each week.
The two basic plans are the 1200 and 1700 calorie
meals. The meals are the same food, just different portion sizes. Good
measure Meals offers a 28-day menu cycle and they update the menu twice each
year with a Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter menu.
This food plan is suitable for anyone trying to lose
weight or manage conditions like Type 2 Diabetes , Hypertension or High
Cholesterol. Their 20-30-50 mix of protein, aft and carbohydrates makes the
plan a great option for anyone who wants to eat healthy.
Freezing your meal for a short period of time is fine
but the packaging is not designed for long term freezing.
The company says that if you have a life threatening
food allergy, it is not recommended that you use this service.
As a general guideline, most of the company's female
clients choose the 1200 or 1400 calorie plans while the male clients choose
a higher calorie option. They also give you the option to change your plan
with only a week's notice.
