This company, formed in 2000, has
grown since 2007, now shipping to all states in the continental United
States. In 2007, this service delivered only to: Las Vegas, San Diego, San
Francisco, Dallas and South Beach, FL.
Mr.
Ruttenberg moved the company from Toronto to LA, then expanded from there.
The company will soon enter the Chicago market.
The company provides
fresh food, shipped nationwide via Fedex. The firm feels that the quality of
its food, plus several available price points and their expertise in
shipping fresh food, will protect them from a substantial decline in
business this year.
Their typical
customer stays on the plan for 60 days (at a cost of $1,200 at the lowest
price plan).
The company is also
working with Starbucks to provide its coffee with the meals, and is working
with American Express’s rewards program so that your purchases qualify for
AMEX rewards points.
How The Program Works
There
are 3 food plans:
In the Zone delivery
(based on The Zone diet, 40% carbohydrates, 30% protein and 30% fat.)
$39.99/day and up
Healthy Heart Meals
(reduced fat and portion controlled plan) $29.99/day and up
No Sweat Diet
(calorie-focused plan that is also applicable for Kosher, vegetarian and
diabetic needs) $19.99/day and up.
Add shipping to
these prices. Food is shipped twice a week, at a cost of $7.79 per shipment
in the New York and Los Angeles areas.
There is a $9.99 sign up fee and a minimum order of 12
days of food.
The 12-day plan costs $22.99-25.99/day and the 30-day
plan costs $19.99-23.99/day.
A company
representative will conduct a consultation over the telephone with you. They
obtain some basic information to determine how much food to prepare for you
as well as what to prepare. They base the calorie level on your height and
weight and sex. They also tell you more about the program and
give you your customer identification number so that you can go online and
further customize your menu if you desire. One may start service within 1-2
days of your initial consultation.
The company prepares and
delivers a full day’s supply of food which includes 3 meals and 2 snacks.
One can track their
shipments via emails from Fedex, as well as text messages to your phone.
All meals are delivered in a
recyclable cooler bag packed with frozen water bottles. Special airtight
packages are used to keep the food fresh. As well, each bag has a security
tag attached. 3 days of food are shipped on Tuesdays and 4 days of food on
Fridays.
You can choose service for
5, 6 or 7 days per week. If you need to put your service on hold or make any
other changes, all that is required is notification by noon the day before
or in the case of the weekend, by noon on Friday.
Commentary & Review
Our staff sampled 3 days worth of breakfasts, lunches, dinners
and snacks, from the Heart Healthy Plan (1550 calories). We have to say that
the quality of the food was excellent. Especially good were the twice cooked
pork dinner and the banana pudding. The lamb stew was a little bland and
could use some more spice or salt. The breakfasts were very good, and with
generous portions. Snacks/desserts were very yummy. Each meal was exactly
450 calories, plus 200 for the snack. Don't be turned off by the
appearance of the food in the air-sealed packages. Once you take them out of
the pouch and microwave them, they look better and taste great. No problems
with delivery or the packaging. However, at $10+ per meal ($29.99/day) we
wonder how many middle income consumers can afford it.
