Negative Calorie Diet Review

The name of this weight loss program may be a bit misleading, since no food has zero calories.  The  negative calorie foods are foods that take more calories to digest then actual calories the food contains. You are burning up more calories than are present in the food in order to process the food through your digestive system.  For instance, if one eats an apple containing 50 calories, it would take a certain amount of energy for your body to digest the nutrients within the apple.  To do that, you'd burn more than 50 calories (the exact amount will vary).

Below is a list of foods allowed in this diet program:

As with most fad diets, the Negative Calorie Diet is very controversial.  Most dietitians agree that a diet plan composed exclusively of negative calorie foods will not contain sufficient vitamins and minerals for a healthy diet.  In our opinion, this weight loss program may be good as a short term weight loss plan to shed a few extra pounds, and cleanse the body of toxins, but it should not be considered a long-term weight loss solution.  It would be difficult to adhere to a diet program restricted only to the foods above.  How long could one maintain such a boring regimen?  Since it is so seriously deficient in protein and fats, and since it lacks some of the essential nutrients necessary in a healthy diet plan  it is particularly not suitable - and potentially dangerous - for pregnant women, children, the elderly, or people with compromised immune systems.
