Summary & Company History
Beverly Hills Weight Loss & Wellness is currently a
regional franchise commercial chain that operates 18 centers in five
states: CA, FL, GA, NC, TX and RI. Ten of the centers are located in
North Carolina. Two more centers will be opening soon.
This chain should not be confused with the "Beverly
Hills Diet" a plan that has received some negative publicity. There
is no affiliation.
Beverly Hills offers more than 20 years of operating
experience in weight loss, having been founded in 1988. The peak was
reached in 1997 or 1998, when the company operated 72 centers. 46
centers were operational in 2005. New management took over and
didn't do much with the chain, therefore the slide in number of
sites.
On December 8, 2005, Concorde Resources Corp. acquired majority
control of Bevcorp International Inc. (d/b/a Beverly Hills Weight
Loss & Wellness).
This regional company is now taking its track
record and concept nationwide and offering franchise opportunities,
with projections of opening more than 100 locations by 2009.
There is a team of leading wellness specialists and
dieticians supporting the weight loss program.
The firm offers one-on-one counseling and customized
programs for women, men, diabetics and children.
The initial franchise fee is $25,000 and the
estimated initial investment range to open a Beverly Hills Weight
Loss & Wellness center is between $49,000 and $84,000.
The Program
This is a lifetime membership program based on
regular grocery store food and 2-3 visits per week
to the company's weight loss centers. The meal plan
is based on 40% carbs, 40% protein and 20% fat.
There is a mandatory purchase of company "proteins",
to be used as in-between meal snacks. These items
include: drinks, soups, nutrition bars, puddings,
jello, and oatmeal.
The mark of a high-quality supplement is the use of
pharmaceutical grade ingredients. Designated by the
letters USP (United States Pharmacopoeia) these
ingredients have met a set of FDA approved
standards for purity, stability and biological
activity. USP ingredients are used in all Beverly
Hills products. Ephedra is not used.
No diet drugs are used
The average client is said to lose 2 lbs. per week
on the plan. Some but not all centers have circuit
training equipment on-site.
Counseling sessions, performed at the clinic, are
ideally done two to three times a week and include
private weigh-ins. On a Beverly Hills Weight Loss &
Wellness plan, the client will eat grocery store
bought foods and undergo evaluations that include a
health assessment, a six-week stabilization
period and an ongoing maintenance program.
Beverly Hills offers a four part program:
Step One: Pre Diet Analysis - They
chart vital signs and record medical history.
Step Two: The Period of Weight Loss - A
well-balanced nutritional plan, vitamin and mineral
supplements and proper counseling are offered.
Six Week Stabilization - Now you gradually
increase caloric intake by adding some of the
restricted foods back into your diet. You keep doing
this until the caloric level that should maintain
the desired weight is reached.
Maintenance - If at any time during the
following year you gain back up to 10 pounds, you
are invited to return to the clinic, free of charge,
for help.
Certified Wellness Counselors
All of the company's counselors pass a comprehensive
Certification Program to ensure they are qualified
to offer dietary advice and behavior strategies that
meet your needs. Each counselor is trained in the
principles of food, nutrition, communication,
effective counseling, and behavioral sciences.
Costs
There is a one-time $395 sign-up fee, which can vary
with company specials (the average being about $300). In addition
the company protein products cost $40/week. Consequently, taking an
example of a customer with 40 lbs. to lose, at the rate of 2 lbs.
per week (20 weeks), this program would cost about $1,100 (20 x $40
for the proteins and a $300 sign-up fee). This roughly on a par with
Jenny Craig and LA Weight Loss. Some centers have infrared saunas
and body wraps, which cost extra.
Clients may come back for service at no charge.
