The Program
Residential Program
The most comprehensive, structured, and intensive element of The Renfrew
Center's treatment options. It is offered at the centers in Philadelphia and
Coconut Creek, FL (near Boca Raton). The average stay is about three weeks.
Residential treatment at Renfrew takes place seven days a week and provides an
intensive and comprehensive program of individual, group, and family therapy.
Each woman is helped to understand her physical and psychological needs in order
to facilitate her active participation in the recovery process. Psychotherapy
groups focus on topics such as assertiveness, family patterns, sexuality,
symptom management and relaxation to help participants develop insights and
enhance their adaptive coping skills.
Renfrew has also developed a program to address the special needs of
adolescents.
Day Transitional Living Program
The Renfrew Center's Day Transitional Living Program offers room and meals for
those adolescents and women participating in Day Treatment who cannot commute
from home to a Renfrew location on a daily basis.
Extended Care Program
Extended Care is a step-down for individuals 18 and over who have previously
completed an intensive treatment program and who have access to their own
transportation.
Experiential Therapy
The Experiential Therapies used at Renfrew are called Creative Arts Therapies.
They offer Art Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy and Psychodrama.
The process of making art; moving in harmony with one's self and in meaningful
interactions with others; and dramatization, role play and dramatic
self-presentation in the safety of a therapeutic community, make it possible to
experience and express feelings that need to be explored in order for recovery
to progress.
Day Treatment Program
This program offers an intensive therapy option and is held either five or seven
days a week, depending upon the location. Day Treatment is designed for
adolescents and women leaving inpatient or residential care who require
additional structure in order to continue their recovery, and for clients whose
clinical condition does not require acute residential or inpatient care but who
can benefit from an intensive partial program.
Therapy groups are psychoeducational, psychodynamic or experiential and focus on
such topics as self-esteem, substance abuse, grief and loss, sexuality,
surviving trauma, family patterns, body image, interpersonal
relationships, assertiveness, nutrition and eating patterns.
Outpatient Services
These are for
adolescents and women who are in
emotional distress or experiencing a
life transition.
The following full range
of services includes:
A thorough assessment of
needs, strengths, and treatment options.
Individual and family therapy,
psychiatric consultation, nutritional
assessment and counseling . Art and
Movement therapies are also offered in
some locations. Group therapy, both
short and long term, covers a wide
variety of issues including anorexia,
bulimia, emotional eating, binge eating,
substance abuse, depression, sexuality,
sexual abuse, relationships, family,
careers and life changes. Groups that
focus on the special needs of
adolescents are also held at many
Centers.
Cost
The Renfrew Center is JCAHO accredited. Treatment programs and services are
covered by most insurance policies. Personnel would not disclose fees, saying
that cost is based on the person's ability to pay.
