YesHeadquarters Diet Health, Inc. 50 First St., Suite 603 San Francisco, CA 94105 877-203-9103 Website: www.diet.com Summary Established in 1997, Diet.com is a weight loss website operated by a privately-held company. Diet.com is an online weight loss program based on Dr. Robert Kushner's Personality Type Diet, a lifestyle-based weight loss approach. Each Diet.com user gets a program that addresses his or her personal challenges in all three dimensions - eating, exercise, and coping. This customized weight loss program matches each dieter's unique personality. Dr. Kushner, the centerpiece of this diet plan, is President of the American Board of Nutrition Specialists, and has treated thousands of overweight patients. He received his medical degree from the University of Illinois Medical School in Chicago. He also has published more than 1,000 scientific articles related to obesity and nutrition. Dr. Kushner is a noted speaker and has appeared on CNN and Good Morning America. Diet.com members can take an in-depth, clinically-validated Diet Personality test to identify their personal profiles. A "Nighttime Nibbler", for example, is someone who eats little during the day but is ravenous at night, and an "All or Nothing Doer" is someone who alternates between working out excessively and being completely sedentary. This is the same survey that Dr. Kushner requires all of his overweight patients to complete before he begins any weight loss treatment at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Diet.com has 500,000 active members who have taken the survey and registered with the website. The company operates with a staff of about 25 people, including a registered dietitian and the main personality behind the diet plan, Dr. Robert Kushner, the author of a book entitled: Dr. Kushner's Personality Type Diet. How The Program Works The Diet.com weight loss program and website utilize the AMA's Heart Healthy Guidelines, and this diet plan is based on the use of regular grocery store foods--no diet company foods or meal replacements. This is a highly personalized diet plan that uses a validated personality test, customized weight loss strategies, personalized meal plans, and social networking. The 4 steps you go through include: 1) find your personality type, 2) take action/strategies, 3) get support, and 4) track progress/success. Diet.com pinpoints 21 personality patterns that are keys to weight loss. It matches the weight loss program to a person's unique characteristics so that they can change their lifestyle naturally and gradually. Members take an in-depth quiz with 70 questions, to identify their eating, exercise and coping patterns. You may be dubbed a "steady snacker" or an "emotional eater", for example. Included in this program are the following services:
There are no phone counselors or one-to-one counseling services with this program, although the company is considering phone counseling for the future. You may email Dr. Kushner or their dietitian. Diet.com offers a substantial support network based on social networking (in fact, some of the management comes from the online dating industry where this is a key feature). This program goes beyond bulletin boards and chat rooms by encouraging members to enlist the help of family and friends, hook up with online buddies with similar personality/diet patterns, and to search for other local dieters to form local support groups to meet offline.Fees
Comment In BestDietForMe.com’s opinion, this ranks among the top diet websites. It's price is competitive with eDiets and others--about $20/month in the short-term, less for 6 months to a year. A good variety of tools is provided and we like the fact that a lot of emphasis is placed on the psychological support most dieters need. Dr. Kushner's Personality Type Diet and test is a valid method of classifying dieters by their lifestyle and habits. Dr. Kushner's credentials also are impressive and he's received favorable reviews from some leading obesity experts such as Kelly Brownell and Thomas Wadden. He is also an expert in nutrition. We also like the fact that a lot of emphasis is placed on analyzing your exercise habits-a key component of successful weight loss, although specific services in this area are a little weak. You basically have to design your own exercise program. Professional support staff does include an MD and an RD--a must for a credible weight loss plan today. Finally, members do have access to "community" support via chat rooms, bulletin boards and offline local diet buddy groups they may form. This is another important feature. All in all, a solid online program that's worth a try. |
