Summary

Metabolic Research Centers is an up and coming chain of 43 independently owned and operated centers located across the county. This company operates centers in: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Florida, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri and Texas.

 The weight loss program was created by doctors and registered dietitians, and is well respected throughout the medical community. The nutritionally balanced program incorporates food from all four food groups and focuses on weight management for life. Metabolic Research Centers are holistic in their approach to weight management, incorporating sound nutritional eating principles and a life  management component to address the emotional side of eating.

How The Program Works

The program includes food from all four food groups. You will be able to make food selections including fresh fruit, vegetable, eggs, cheese, bread, and lean meats. You can buy food from the grocery store or eat out in restaurants. You MUST drink 64 oz. of water a day (8 glasses). You may have one daily of the company's high nutrient supplements.

Each center offers some natural herbs and vitamins that enhance the program's success. The purchase of supplements is optional, and there are no mandatory company diet foods to buy. These additional supplements offer a host of benefits that the staff will teach you about. It is up to your discretion if you chose to include herbs and vitamins in your program.

This regular food-based weight loss program uses a one-on-one personalized counseling approach--no small or large groups. A high percentage of their counselors are people who were successful losing weight on the program, who are then trained internally. Some nurses and dietitians may also be used. Counselors are overseen by company dietitians and psychologists, and physicians. You are expected to visit the center for weigh-ins and meet with your counselor at least once a week.

Program Features and Benefits:

* Claims that you will lose 2-5 pounds weekly safely
* Blood Pressure Checks
* Body Measurements
* Personal Weigh-ins
* Individualized Menu Plans
* Food Diary Supervision
* Lifestyle Management
* Stabilization Program

Some of this company's centers are larger than others, and therefore have space for on-site aerobics classes. This is a rarity among commercial weight loss chains. Most don't have on-site exercise available in any format.

There are no drugs required, the plan does address all psychological support aspects of weight loss, and the program does accommodate pregnant or nursing women.

Fees

The typical cost of a 12-week program is in the range of $330, and a 16-week plan - $440 range, assuming that the client does not purchase any herbal supplements or vitamins.  Of course, the more weight one has to lose, the longer the plan will take to reach your goal, and the cost goes up accordingly. Several centers run a 1/3-off special ($198 for 17 weeks, including maintenance).

If you do plan to purchase any of this company's herbs or vitamins, plan on spending a lot of money. The store at their website sells them in quantities of 12 bottles, with price tags ranging from $144 to $1,188! Many are in the $400 to $600 range. This is clearly where the company makes a lot of its income.

Comment

BestDietForMe.com analysts think that consumers may be hearing more of this company in the near future, but it still may be difficult to find a center near you as they only have about 50 operating across the nation. The plan appears to be based on sound nutritional guidance and if you are looking for personalized counseling this may be a good program for you. We like the fact that some of their centers also offer on-site exercise classes at no extra cost, to address this important component of weight loss. And, counselors do place heavy emphasis on the psychological support, also a crucial aspect of successful weight loss. The price is competitive with other commercial programs. However, if you do use their vitamins and herbs, they are very expensive. We suggest buying them yourself at local vitamins or health food stores and paying just for the main program.
